Gags

Use your gags to battle the Cogs and make them fall apart with laughter! There are seven types of gags: Toon-Up, Trap, Lure, Sound, Throw, Squirt, and Drop. Use the jellybeans you've earned playing Trolley games to buy gags at one of Goofy's Gag Shop locations in any of Toontown's playgrounds. Some ToonTasks allow you to carry more jellybeans. These are important tasks because the more jellybeans you carry the more often you'll be able to go to the gag shop and restock quickly. Similarly, some Toontasks allow you to carry more gags. The more gags you carry the less often you'll need to go to the gag shop and restock before heading back into battle.

Getting Started

As you advance in the game by completing ToonTasks and increasing your gag skills in battles, you'll earn new and increasingly powerful gags. You start Toontown with the Squirting Flower and Cupcake gags, the first gags in the Squirt and Throw tracks. By battling Cogs, you'll earn skill points for using those gags. You can see the amount of skill you'll earn for using that gag in your battle menu and on the gags page of your Shticker book. Skill points gained are equal to the level of the gag each time it successfully hits. If you are participating in a cog invasion, all experience is doubled during the invasion. Gag experience is also increased in special areas like cog buildings, mints, VP battles, and CFO battles. If the level of your gag is greater than the cog level you will not receive experience. The maximum experience gained per battle, or per building, is 200 experience points per gag. After reaching 200 experience points on a particular gag, you will stop gaining points until the battle, or building, is completed.
Hint: When the gag button is blue you can get experience points. If it is green you have reached your maximum experience points in battle, or there are no cogs high enough present to gain experience points.
Note: When an invasion is in progress, the invasion multiplier is not applied in any Cog HQ's Factory or Cogboss because these locations always have a special set of cogs: Random Sellbots, Cashbots, or skelecogs, etc... However, invading cogs are seen outside in the main area of the HQ.

Gag Experience Multipliers

You can raise gags quicker by doing buildings, and cog HQs. You get a multiplied amount of skill points.

Buildings: Floor Multiplication

You can earn skill points faster by taking over Cog buildings because the skill credit is multiplied on higher floors.

Floor Experience
Floor 1 Gag Level X 1.0, with invasion X 2.0
Floor 2 Gag Level X 1.5, with invasion X 3.0
Floor 3 Gag Level X 2.0, with invasion X 4.0
Floor 4 Gag Level X 2.5, with invasion X 5.0
Floor 5 Gag Level X 3.0, with invasion X 6.0

Choosing New Gag Tracks

When you first create a toon you start out with the basic gag tracks: Throw and Squirt. But there are other gags to choose from: Toon-Up, Drop, Lure, Trap, and Sound. As you progress through the game you will be able to choose 4 out of 5 of the optional gag tracks, each unique in their own way. So choose wisely!

  • Toontown Central: Sound or Toon-Up (talk to Librarian Larry, Honey Haha, or Franz Neckvain).
  • Donald's Dock: Drop or Lure (talk to Toon HQ).
  • Minnie's Melodyland: Trap or Sound/Toon-Up, whichever you didn't pick before (talk to Toon HQ).
  • The Brrrgh: The last two, depending on your previous choices (talk to Lil' Oldman).

Level 7 Gags

Level 7 Gags are unique compared to other gags, because they cannot be purchased from a Gag Shop.

To unlock a Level 7 Gag, you need to max out a gag track [which currently requires 10000 points]. These gags, which are much stronger than normal ones, always hit all cogs/toons, regardless of what is normal for that track. You can only carry one of each Level 7 Gag at a time, but they do not take up space in your gag bag. However, they cannot be purchased, and can only be obtained in three ways -

Maxing: When you max out a gag track, you get the Level 7 gag for free.

Gag Points: This is a unique way of getting Level 7 gags that does not apply to other levels. Since there are no other gags in the track to unlock, your point meter goes in reverse, reading "500 to go!". Once you reach 0 to go, you will get another of that Level 7 Gag, and the meter will empty back to 500 to go again. However, if you still have the gag after you reach 0 to go, you will simply stop earning points in that track, and the meter will give you the gag once you use the one you have.

Gag Trees: If you have planted all 6 of the other gags in a track, you can also plant a Level 7 gag tree. For example, if you have a Flower Pot, Sandbag, Anvil, Big Weight, Safe, and Piano tree, you can plant an Ocean Liner tree. Once the tree is fully grown [which takes a very long time], you will be able to get another of that Level 7 Gag once a day, not including ones earned from gag points. This also makes the Level 7 gag stronger, especially in the case of the Train Track, which does 200 damage [enough to destroy a Level 12 cog!] when planted.

The Gags

Choosing gag tracks is one of the hardest things to do in ToonTown, especially if you are starting out with your first toon. You'll find your first toon will take you the longest to Max out while your second or third toon takes a fraction of the time. You may ask yourself: Which gags should I choose? Which gags shouldn't I choose? What is the advantage of having one gag over another? These questions can only be answered by exploring the facts of each Gag, and the answer comes from you!

Toon-Up

Toon-up gags let you fill other Toon’s Laff meters in battle. These gags are especially important when you are working with other Toons and the Cogs are coming in waves! Some Toon-up gags only affect one Toon (the battle menu will let you choose which Toon you want to help); other gags affect all Toons.

Image:toonup.gif

Image:Tt chart gag toonup.gif

Image:tupic.jpg

Advantages

  • You can heal other toons in battle and keep them from going sad.
  • When Toon-Up misses it still heals the toon, but for a smaller amount.

Dis-Advantages

  • You can't heal yourself in battle with Toon-Up
  • When in trouble and every toon has to use Toon-Up, the cogs keep attacking while you're slacking. Try to keep them from attacking by choosing one Toon to use a good lure gag. Big Magnet, for example, has a good chance of luring the Cogs. It's best to attack them while they're dazed in sleep.

Facts of Toon-Up

  • Toon-Up gags that heal all toons divide its potential healing power between the number of toons present, minus yourself.
  • Toon-Up can miss, and when it misses, it still heals that toon but it will only heal 20% of it's heal power. When Toon-Up misses, you do not get experience points.
  • Gaining experience with Toon-Up also depends on the level of Cog present in the battle. If the highest Cog is Level 3 only Toon-Up Level 3 or lower (Feather, Megaphone, and Lipstick) will yield experience points.
  • When toon-up misses, the Toon will say words in only small letters.

Example: If a Toon-up miss ,the toon will say ha, hmm, he instead of Ha Ha Ha, He He He

  • When someone Toon-up someone else, and it does 18+ Toon-up,the Toon will say something in BLOCK LETTERS.

Example: If you Toon-up someone for more than 18 laff points, the Toon wil say HA HA HA! instead of Ha Ha Ha. Note:It will not work when your Toon-up miss.

  • When someone Toon-up someone else, and it does 30+ Toon-up,the Toon will say BWA HA HA! instead of HA HA HA!

Note:It will not work when your Toon-up miss.

Trap

These are the only gags guaranteed to hit – as long as you can lure a Cog into them. You can't carry as many trap gags as you can other types of gags.

Image:trap.gif

Image:Tt chart gag trap.gif

Image:trpic.jpg

Advantages

  • Trap is the most powerful gag in the game, with a maximum rating of 180 damage without planting it!
  • Trap can increase the accuracy of lure and tell you whether a lure gag will succeed or fail before it's used.
  • Trap's level 7 gag can kill an entire row of level 12 cogs if you have it planted,or someone else use a bike horn.

Dis-Advantages

  • Another toon must "lure" a cog "into the trap" for trap to succeed.
  • You can carry less trap than the other gags. Example: You can carry 2 TNT, but you can carry 3 Grand Pianos.

Facts of Trap

  • The trap signs, which tell you if lure is going to succeed or fail, only apply if trap and lure are used in the same round. If trap and lure are used in a different round the trap signs and boosted accuracy do not apply to lure.

Trap-Lure Signs

  • Banana Peel - When you see a banana on the field while another banana is in your toons hand lure will not fail during this turn.
  • Rake - This one is more unknown, but has thought to be how the rake is thrown and/or which way it lands.
  • Marbles - When you see marbles on the ground before they are thrown lure will not fail.
  • Quick Sand - The quick sand has a square shape with one end beveled inward. When the beveled side faces towards the toons lure will not fail. When it faces the cogs it will fail.
  • Trap Door - When the hinges are facing right (towards the screen) lure will not fail. When the hinges are facing the opposite direction lure will fail.
  • TNT - If you see a TNT on the ground already before you throw it lure will not fail.

Lure

Lure gags bring the Cogs closer to you. Why the heck would you want to do that?

Image:lure.gif

Image:Tt chart gag lure.gif

Image:lupic.jpg

Advantages

  • Lured Cogs won't attack unless they are woken up by a squirt, throw or sound gag.
  • Squirt and throw gags pack a bigger punch against lured Cogs - 50% more power!
  • Four of the lure gags can lure up to 4 cogs at one time.
  • Lured cogs cannot attack which allows toons to wait for lagging toons, do toon up, call for help, and guarantees throw and squirt gags will hit the lured cogs.
  • Luring a cog can be used to delay game play so that other toons can join or for and invasion to end or start for example.

Dis-Advantages

  • Lure has a low accuracy rating, so it can miss.
  • You won't get the 50% bonus if the lure gag is inter-missed.(Means that the lure still works, but it missed inside.)
  • Using sound on lured cogs will wake them up
  • Drop cannot hit a lured cog

Facts of Lure

  • You have to lure a Cog to get it to fall for a Trap gag.
  • Lure has better accuracy on Sellbots then on the other cogs
  • Lure is one of the most important gags to have, especially when working by yourself.
  • Even though Lure keeps the cogs from attacking, they only last for a few rounds!
  • The number of rounds SOS Lures last is dependant on how many stars it has. 3 stars will behave like a level 2 small magnet and a 5 star will behave like a level 6 hypnogoggles.
  • If you lure some of the cogs and some of the cogs are not lured, and you use sound, sound will misses sometime. But don't worry, if it's missed,it won't wake up lured cogs.
  • You can use a lv2 gags on a row of lv11 Corporate Raiders without missing in CEO if all Corporate Raiders' light are green.

Sound

Image:sound.gif

Image:Tt chart gag sound.gif

Image:sopic.jpg

Advantages

  • You can attack all cogs at one time.
  • When sound is used in a group, bonus damage is added to the total.
  • The maximum potential of group use is 200 Damage, the highest potential damage, not counting group bonus damage. This gives 4 toons the ability to kill 4 level 12 cogs at one time, where as this would not be possible with single hits in one turn.
  • Sound has more accuracy than any other gag (except for trap gags, which rely on a lure gag's accuracy).

Dis-Advantages

  • Sound is the weakest gag in the game when attacking a single cog.
  • By yourself sound has the maximum potential of destroying a level 5 cog.
  • Sound is used just after lure and right before other gags, so you'll have to time it carefully.
  • Once you have the Elephant Trunk, you need 5000 skill points for the fog horn, which makes it hard to level up from lv. 5-6.

Facts of Sound

  • Sound is useful in any Cog Boss battle, where there will be many cogs coming at the group quickly.
  • Sound can be useful to stun a cog before a drop gag is used and get rid of the weaker cogs in your way.
  • Sound is one of the first gag tracks offered to you
  • If you lure some of the cogs and some of the cogs are not lured, and you use sound, sound will misses sometime. But don't worry, if it's missed,it won't wake up lured cogs.

Throw

Throw is commonly used by all toons. Nobody should be alone without it.

Image:throw.gif

Advantages

  • Your most powerful gag until you get drop or trap.
  • Everyone has it so it is used more often than other gags.
  • Can get the bonus damage for lure

Dis-Advantages

  • You can only attack one cog at a time.
  • You might not get the Lure knockback bonus

Facts of Throw

  • Throw is one of the first gags you start out with when creating a toon.
  • Throw has a medium accuracy.

Squirt

Advantages

  • As one of the main offensive gags, its a great follow-up gag if the pie gag misses.
  • Has a high accuracy rating.
  • Thought to "stun" a cog to make other gag's accuracy higher, especially with drop.
  • A commonly used gag, as you start out with it

Dis-Advantages

  • Has the lowest damage rate for a single-hit gag.
  • This gag does not go into effect until after trap, sound and throw which means that cogs will be killed before later gags can be used. This is a small set back and can easily be compensated for by team work and working alone on squirt.

Facts of Squirt

  • Squirt is a gag that you first receive when you make your toon.
  • Squirt has a higher accuracy rate then most of the other gags.

Drop

Image:drop.gif

Image:Tt chart gag drop.gif

Image:drpic.jpg

Advantages

  • Drop is a great finish up gag when other gags don't finish the job.
  • Starting with level 3 Drop kills higher level cogs. Level 3 Drop can kill a level 4 cog and level 5 Drop can kill a level 5 cog. Level 6 drop can kill a level 7 cog and when maxxed level 6 Drop will kill a Level 11 cog if it hits the cog.
  • Drop is very useful for solos because, where Trap does more damage, you do not need to use lure for Drop

Dis-Advantages

  • Drop will not work on a lured cog.
  • Lowest accuracy of all gags.
  • Drop damage does not increase as you gain experience points like with the other gags. Each level gag of drop has the same damage from start to finish (except for the grand piano, which originally does 85 damage, and grows to 170).
  • Drop is the last gag so it often does not get used because the cog is killed by earlier gags.

Facts of Drop

  • Affects one cog, but it can do big damage.
  • What the TNT makes up for in power and accuracy, the Grand piano makes up for in it's carry limit, you can hold three.
  • Almost does the same damage as Trap
  • Lv7 Drop gag does the same damage as lv7 Trap gags.
